Heading out for my first gun show tomorrow at the Will Rogers' Coliseum in Fort Worth.
If anyone is going to be there, shoot me an email and we'll see about meeting up.
For my action plan (staying alive by not spending too much money), I have very limited goals this show.
1. Pick up some B27 style targets, something along the lines of these. Since my primary goal is to train for self defense, I figure it make sense to have realistic target sizes to work with. Besides, it might make a few of the anti-freedom, pro-ignorance crowd cry or something else.
2. Check out additional holster options. Yes, I'm still going through that phase for the Taurus. I have an Ace Case tuckable inside the waist band holster that works well but would like to see and try other options. Under consideration -- a shoulder holster rig, a 5.11 Concealed carry shirt and a belly band. I would like to find a better outside the waist band holster, something that snugs it closer to my sides then other holster that I use. Not sure if I'll purchase this outing or not but hands on is always a better evaluation.
3. Probably will purchase a magazine carrier for the extra magazine. Recent posts have convinced me that I really need to carry a spare mag.
4. Last and least probable is ammo -affordable ammo. Okay, both of you stop laughing now. I know it's a long shot, but practice rounds in .45 ACP would be nice (some is on the way), SD ammo in .38 special for the Ruger would be considered, practice rounds also. Probably won't happen this time but will be prepared.
5. Meeting people and enjoying window shopping...the easiest part.

LOVE my Glaco Miami Classic II shoulder rig. 18 hour days with my 1911 under my coat are not uncommon. Comphy as hell, hides long grips well. Good retention strap.
Good luck on ammo. This ammo bullshit made me decide that maybe I'll look into IDPA shooting NEXT year.
It's great to have friends and family. A friend is looking to get rid of his Dillon RL-550B press for about 2/3rds of what he paid...please any accessories I need thrown in.
Add that to a generous father in law who will help me get set up and I think I can afford to get into a practical shooting competition this year. (post idea on which version to get into).
Do you know anyone who has used the 5.11 concealment undershirts?
Not specifically, no. I'm sure I have a few friends who have one, but we've never discussed it.
Yeah good luck at finding components. I heard primers have dried up on the market.
Thankfully in attempts to mitigate the $20 haz-mat fee, I elected to get 20,000 Large pistol primers delivered to my home. So I'm golden on that stuff, still I heard these day's they're hard to find.
Nice find on the dillion.
I want to get rid of my Lee Progressive press, but I'm worried how much extra gear and dies I'll need that won't be compatable.
The Lee works well enugh for now, but it breaks my balls all too often for my tastes.
Bob, Would you pick me up some Nazi memorabilia?
That's a joke, huh? I'm more or less convinced by the comments on my post the other day where I showed that very biased video of two gun shows in Northern CA and Reno NV.
I'll look forward to your description of what you run into. I'd like to know about the Nazi stuff, about the paranoid survivalist thing, about the Obama hate/fear, about the FEMA concentration camps (well that one goes with the paranoid one).
I'd like to know if you see many gun transactions done privately with no background checks.
Please let us know.
MikeB,
I encourage you to spend a few minutes learning the law.
Can you tell me the difference between a transaction between an FFL and a private citizen and a transaction between two private citizens.
I find your ignorance and complete refusal to learn about what you write about so often amazing.
You buy into every negative bias and stereotype of the gun owners while ascribing nothing but pure ideals and angelical motives to the gun control crowd.
I'll be happy to report on how little those things happen at the gun show. Of course, I'll be wasting my time because it seems you've already have made up your mind.
Optics order didn't get here on time and I'm low on T/C barrels that aren't serious oddballs like .45WinMag (NOT SUPER) so since I was just in your neck of the woods in Denton, I'm going to have to take a pass on this one. Wasn't going to have enough stuff to sell to make it worth paying for a table.
Always next time.
Primers weren't dried up at Denton, but people wanted 100% more than I was willing to pay for them. Scared up a lot of components for my weird magnums as the component/ammo run is mostly on mil and normalish pistol calibers.
Even with that, I just bought a case of Lake City M193 5.56 ball from a friend in Ft Worth for what came out to 14 bucks a box of 20 including shipping it downstate.
Just keep your eyes open.
Oh, USMC Veterans are still raffling a Original Garand, provided they make this show, in nice condition for 5 bucks a chance, I'd buy a ticket. It IS original and not-rearsenaled. I'd figure it a $950-1100 rifle and I looked it over rather extensively at Denton and bought 5 tickets.
That's a jokeIndeed. A threadbare, stereotypical one, thoroughly devoid of humor. For you liberals to be so tolerant you sure do come off as bigoted assclowns. Quite often, too.
